The early steel wheels do not accommodate the kh disc brakes My 5000 pound 66 ford full size wagon came with the big kh 4 piston calipers on the front and i put wilwood 4 piston 1.375 calipers on the rear with.810x12 rotor and never had a brake fade from 100 mph multiple panic stop. Kh disc brakes were introduced in the fall of 1964 with new design steel wheels to accommodate them.
Ken, just curious if you remember which kh location rebuilt it for you The kit was pretty awesome and complete aside from two fittings i had to purchase myself at my local autozone. I started interning at kh in jan 85 in the vary same department that designed and tested these prop valves
It was in romulus at the time
I can still picture the test rig that was used to hydraulically test / graph these units. These are finned fomoco drums with kh and 73649 cast in to them Are these the original drums for 67 I'm guessing kh is for kelsey hayes
Are they for 1 3/4 or 2 shoes Are these worth keeping or should i just order some new ones and quit worrying about it Thanks in advance for any help 20181022_150210rsz by m l, on flickr
If you do blast the calipers, do it with the old hose attached and bleeder in place and all assembled
Then you won't get media all up in the bore/internals of the calipers I hope they are nice inside Sometimes the bores get pitted in calipers (never done kh 4 piston ones) I have a set of kh front disc brakes i'll be installing and i need a master cylinder for the setup
I recently converted it to dual bowl drum/drum master cylinder but decided while the engine was out i'll replumb everything for disc brakes and install them. I’ve been kicking around the idea of adding a power brake booster to my d code coupe I currently have manualsoem kh front disc brakes with a 2 reservoir. He used the original kh dust boots that are in good shape
There is no rust on anything
My question is should i do another rebuild or just bolt them back on and do a good bleed to flush out any contaminates In other words if it ain't broke don't fix it I am afraid a tear down just to replace the orings may be a mistake. A guy my local mustang club has them on an early mustang he takes to vintage racing events.
I recently purchased the csrp kh style manual disc brake kit for my 65
